I’m working toward my Master Photographer degree. Part of the process is that I share with others and teach classes. I registered to teach children’s portraiture this year for Professional Photographers of America’s (PPA) Super Monday event. My friend Carla Blankenship who shoots in Madison, AL, co-taught with me. I was worried that I wouldn’t have anything to teach another photographer, but it turned out to be a great event with information being exchanged and we had models come in ranging in age from 2 months-13 years, so we had fun shooting and dealing with lots of personalities and ages. And talk about personalities! We started with our sweet Diva Audry and ended with our sweet 2 month old Darcy.
We talked and demonstrated a variety of lighting techniques with both natural and studio lighting, shared tips for getting kids at various ages to participate, and ways to get each child’s personality to shine in the images. I’ve gone through and picked a few of my favorite images that I was able to capture during the process. I’m looking forward to doing this again in the future!
