I’ve been there. I understand the struggle of coordinating everyone’s schedules, choosing outfits, and getting everyone to smile at the same time. As a mother who documented every milestone of my daughter’s lives, I know what the portraits mean to you.
As Huntsville’s Family Photographer, I understand that they aren’t just photos. They are the visual record of who you are, together, right now. Before kids leave for college. Before grandparents age. Before the baby becomes a teenager. These moments don’t come back – with with the right photographer, they never have to leave.
As a Master Photographer specializing in family portraiture, I create more than images. I create museum-quality heirloom art designed to grace your walls and fill your albums for generations. Your family deserves more than digital files lost on a hard drive. You deserve artwork that tells your story. And, should you want to take your art to the next level, I offer mixed media oil paintings that truly become a family heirloom.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What’s the Best Time of Year for Family Portraits?
Fall (September-November) and spring (April-May) are the best options for north Alabama. We tend to get the best fall colors in early to mid November. However, I photograph families year-round. Each season brings unique beauty whether it be the fall and spring colors, a winter wonderland (if we ever get real snow), or the season colors found at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. Thankfully, my studio is always an option as well whether you are wanting casual or formal images.
How Should You Coordinate Outfits for Family Photos?
The key term is coordinate rather than match. Choose a color palette of three or four complementary colors that match the room in which you would want to hang a wall portrait. Then, let each family member wear their own style within that color palette. Keep in mind, for portraits, solids and small prints are much better options than clothes with large prints (which draw the eye and command attention). I recommend you avoid all white or all black unless that is the aesthetic in your home. Layers, textures and simple/small pattern in moderation add visual interest.
How Long Does a Family Portrait Session Last?
Family sessions typically last 45-60 minutes. This gives me time to capture various groupings (whole family, parents only, siblings, individual children, etc.) and allows for natural breaks, especially with younger children. I’ll work at your family’s pace in order to create the best images possible.
What if my Toddler Won’t Cooperate During the Session:
Kids will be kids, and that’s perfectly fine. I’m experienced in working with children of all ages and temperaments. I use games, prompts (there’s no shame in my game) and patience to capture genuine moments. Often the “imperfect” candid shots become your favorites. Don’t stress, I’ve got you covered.
Where do Family Portrait Sessions Take Place?
I have a beautiful studio in south Huntsville as well as the beautiful city of Huntsville with all the options it offers such as downtown, Ditto Landing, many open fields, the Huntsville Botanical Gardens and so much more. Studio sessions offer comfort and classic or more modern backgrounds, should weather be too hot or too cold at the time of year when your family is available for your portrait session.
Can Extended Family Join?
Of course! Extended family sessions are wonderful, especially around the holidays. Let me know the total number of people in advance so I can plan accordingly. If any family member has special needs (wheelchair, can’t walk far, etc.) I’ll need that information as well. I’ll be sure the capture the entire group as well as individual families, children and variety of groupings.
